Facing down Facebook fiends

By Rachel Raskin-Zrihen

Like in most of the Arab world, agitators are using Facebook to organize something in Israel – but it’s something the nature of which, I think, could produce an unprecedented calamity.

A few days ago, a Facebook page was taken down after company officials were made aware that is was calling on Palestinians to “take up arms against Israel,” Associated Press reported.

Despite its removal, Palestinian Authority activists recreated the “Third Intifada” page soon afterwards, the story says. But now it’s “hidden” in a Muslim page “innocuously entitled ‘Make the Prophet Number One on Facebook,’” and a “Muslim page similarly entitled ‘Subscribe now to the Palestinian Intifada,’ on its logo but which on the heading is listed under Non-profit Organizations,” AP reported.

The site directs visitors to another page which calls for Arabs from across the Middle East to invade Israel en masse on May 15 and kill Jews, AP reports.

They are evidently billing this as a way to force what they like to call the “Right of Return” but which really means the destruction of Israel.

The event’s date is no accident, either, being the anniversary of the creation of the modern state of Israel – a date the Muslims call the “Tragedy.”

“By Wednesday afternoon, the page had garnered more than three million – 3,293,252 – votes of support” from Facebook members worldwide, AP reports.

The original “Third Palestinian Intifada,” page had more than 350,000 fans when it was taken down and called on Palestinians to take to the streets after Friday prayers on May 15.

“Judgment Day will be brought upon us only once the Muslims have killed all of the Jews,” the story quotes from the page.

“With the ‘Facebook Revolutions’ helping to bring down regimes in Egypt and Tunisia, the social networking site has become an agent of change and a powerful political tool,” the story notes.

But there is a huge difference between this and what’s happening in the Arab world and the implications are devastating.

Unlike elsewhere in the Middle East, what these hate mongers are calling for is not the overthrow of their own tyrannical government, but the destruction of a nation through the genocide of its people.

I’m not sure what I’d do if I were the Israeli government asked to prepare for this eventuality, but I can think of no way around there being terrible violence.

The Israelis can’t be expected to allow themselves to be invaded by millions of armed, homicidal maniacs – civilian or otherwise. And they can’t let them roam the streets, wreaking havoc, which is what they’ll try to do. And they can’t ask the entire Israeli population to cower in their homes and hope the problem goes away. We know from horrible, recent experience that too often, the barbarian enemy has no compunction whatsoever about going into people’s houses and murdering babies in their beds.

The only response I can think of is for the entire Jewish population of Israel to be armed and barricaded in their homes and businesses that day, prepared to shoot anything besides Israeli soldiers that moves in the streets.

If these Facebook instigators succeed in making this happen, there will be a bloodbath in Israel’s streets, one way or the other.

So, what will the world say?

Well, we know this from past experience.

There will be a tremendous international hew and cry over Israel’s “disproportionate use of force,” and calls for more death to Jews.

But the game changer will be what the United States elects to do.

Will it call for “restraint” – the international euphemism for “lie down and let them run you over like a freight train”?

Will it insist Israel ask its citizens to allow themselves to be murdered in their homes and businesses?

Will it come to its staunchest ally’s defense? Or, worst case scenario, will it be sucked in to

“protecting” the Palestinian murderers by intervening militarily on their side?

The implications are mind boggling.

Let’s hope a way is found to prevent this thing from happening.

  1. “The site directs visitors to another page which calls for Arabs from across the Middle East to invade Israel en masse on May 15 and kill Jews, AP reports….”

    Interesting that “Palestinian” [ P’lishti ] actually translates as invader:

    “p’li-SHAH” <Heb. – n: “invasion,” “incursion”;
    “pah-LAHSH” <Heb. – vt: “to invade,” “to trespass,” “to intrude”;
    “pahl-SHAH-nee” <Heb. – adj: “invasive”;
    “pahl-shah-NOOT” <Heb. – n: “invasiveness”;
    “p’lish-TEE” <Heb. – n/sg: “invader”;
    “p’lish-TEEM” <Heb. – n/pl: “invaders”; “intruders”
    “EH-retz p’lishTEEM” <Heb. – n/s: “land of the intruders”
    “P’LESH-et” <Heb. – n/pr: ~ “intruderland,” “trespassers-place,” “district of the invaders,” etc, etc.

    “I’m not sure what I’d do if I were the Israeli government asked to prepare for this eventuality, but I can think of no way around there being terrible violence.”

    For those invaders who’ll let themselves be taken, I like SOLITARY CONFINEMENT.

    Only a soul that’s squeaky clean can handle the absence of all distractions (including each other) — and this is more likely to be a crew populated by pathological pigs.

    Those who won’t be taken can be introduced to their 72 virgins,

    post haste and forthwith.
