What is driving the bombing of Libya?

By Ted Belman

The administration and the UN justified the imposition of a no-fly zone on Libya as an humanitarian intervention. They knew full well that an innocuous sounding “no-fly zone” would start with a major boming campaign. McCain, Lieberman and Graham days before the bombing started were urging military intervention to avoid “a horrible blood bath”. Just last night on Fox News McCain was arguing that the casualties were over 10,000 and would go higher.

Dennis Ross went so far as to say on behalf of the administration,

“We were looking at ‘Srebrenica on steroids’ —the real or imminent possibility that up to a 100,000 people could be massacred, and everyone would blame us for it,”

A few years ago I posted many articles on the truth about the bombing of Serbia in which it was said that Clinton met with Izetbegovic, the Muslim leader and was asked to intervene. Clinton said that if there were 5000 casualties, he could intervene. So Izetbegovic produced the myth of the Srebrenica Massacre of 8000 and Clinton bombed Serbia. It has been proven to my satisfaction that the Massacre was in fact a fabrication. (I will try to find the link which sets it out.)

By the way, McCain, Lieberman and Graham supported that bombing too.

I spent a year investigating the bombing of Serbia and became of the opinion that government and media spin should never be trusted.

Four years ago I showed how the American public was Played like a fiddle, by Ruder Finn, a New York public relations firm which was tasked with the job of making the Muslim fascists look like victims and the Serbian victims look like fascists.

They explained their success.

“Speed is vital … it is the first assertion that really counts. All denials are entirely ineffective.”

Throughout this article I drew parrallels to the the propaganda war on Israel.

Last Friday Glenn Beck said that Bloomberg was reporting 15,000 casualties. Last night John McCain, alledged a similar high number.

On Mar 24, the NYT published an op-ed in response to Ross’s statement, entitled 100,000 Libyan casualties?. The NYT no less.

But given that the provisional casualty estimates (civilian and military) for the first month of the Libyan civil war range from 1,000 to 6,500 deaths,

The lower number is closer to the truth. So Bloomberg and McCain are also wrong.

Need I point out that about 1200 casualties were reported in Cast Lead which included about 1/3 civilians and 2/3 military. By the Libyan standard that would have justified the bombing of Israel.

Just as the bombing of Serbia smacked of an agenda unrelated to the casualties, so does the bombing of Libya.

The NYT is now reporting Syrian Troops Open Fire on Protesters in Several Cities. Time to bomb Syria. Don’t hold your breath.

So what is driving the bombing of Libya? I believe it has to do with Saudi Arabia and Fance. So what is it?

  1. sorry to have a different answer, but Qaddhafi laid siege to ‘rebel’-controlled cities. Zawara, Zawiya,Zintan, Misrata in the west. Ras Lanuf, al-Brega, and Adjabiya in the east, the three cities that return control of Libya’s oil and water infrastructure back to the opposition. Q went Genghis and cut off the water and electricity, and sent tanks into these urban areas. So, one threshold for humanitarian intervention is NOT live ammo against protesters, but laying siege to entire cities. You will just have to wait a week to find out how many civilians are dead in the eastern cities that Qaddhafi has now withdrawn from. Even more chilling is the complete silence from Zawara, a city of 40,000, mostly Berber, near the Tunisian border. Not a word from Zawara since March 15, when Q took it from the Berber opposition.

Also, the EU and Egypt feared a flood of refugees. UK’s David Cameron answered questions in parliament on Friday, March 18. By the 40th question, he had “Libya-as-Somalia” on the southern border of Sussex 🙂

Sarkozy is gung-ho because he needs a political boost, but also is acting on behalf of former French colonies of Tunisia and Chad. Algeria is actually helping Qaddhafi a bit, because of the Touregs who live in both countries.

As for Japan? They have $14 trillionUSD in domestic savings. Thrifty people. No need to sell off US Treasuries to pay the estimated $230billion in reconstruction. I admit I would like to see Japan buy up every RV (nice Recreational Vehicles) that America can build, for temporary housing for the displaced.

please spare me any more personal attacks – I was just trying to answer Ted’s question. I am sure the Saudis also want Q to disappear, but some of Libya’s eastern tribes do also live in Egypt.

  2. Cuinn says:

The U.S. dollar was stronger against most other currencies after a Federal Reserve official raised the prospects for higher interest rates.

The Chinese not only have stopped buying American debt they are unloading it through third parties. Japan will probably start selling off their treasuries some 900 billion dollars. In order for the Treasury to have the funds to pay for the Japanese and others redemption’s they need to sell more debt. At current interest rates it’s doubtful they will have enough buyers to cover them. Therefore the only two options are QE3 or raise interest rates. Speculation is it could top 5-6%. That wold kill any hopes for an American recovery as far as the eye can see.

Add rising oil prices and other commodities to the mix, look for civil unrest to move from ME to Europe and then to USA. The world wanted Change and a New World Order; Well it’s here and I don’t think most will be happy with the New Order

War is the logical methods used to detract and deflect criticism and unrest.

I am not sure. There is so much written and then there are cliques hiding what is written.

It is the main story still in politics.

    Google “4international srenrenica”

    Then many articles come up.

The key book is by Civikov. It is in German. I have not bought it, not read it.

With this book, Civikov broaches maybe the hottest subject of European post-war history. The investigation of the mass murders of Srebrenica, meticulous researched, reads like a criminal novel.

Step by step, he demonstrates how the tribunal has managed to define presumably the most brutal crime in Europe after 1945 based on the problematic testimony of a single principal witness.

After the reading of this book, the credibility of the Yugoslavia tribunal is shaken to the core.

    The author:
Journalist and literature specialist, Germinal Civikov was born in 1945 in Russe (Bulgaria) and lives since 1975 in the Hague (Netherlands). He was active for many years as an editor for the ” Deutsche Welle“ programme in Cologne. He also authored Milosevic—trial of the century [2006].

The key issue is Libya. I have been attacked for “dumping” on Julia Gorin

But I attack you too Ted. I attack all present Jewish leaders and blogs.

I see that the present alliance of Jewish leaders withh American Empire is located in your refusal to call for victory of Gadhhafi. I mean that is te outward momentary expression of this phenomenon of Jews being tied to Empire, their future executioners.

I insist it is an “Empire Sharia Alliance”

Those Jews who are not with Gadhafi are with the future executioners of the great Jewish people

This is not a normal issue. This is a life and death issue.

As I write this there is a great and historical betrayal taking place by all of you Jewish leaders and it is located not just in Gaza but in this issue of Gadhafi

  4. So what is driving the bombing of Libya? I believe it has to do with Saudi Arabia and Fance. So what is it?

$8-$10 per gallon of gas in America and $12-$15 in EU where taxes are higher than in America.

Libya produces 1.6 million bbls a day. removed from the market and before peak demand for summer means that this could be the nail in the coffins of economic recovery in America and the west in general. Japan is broke and will need to sell their treasuries to pay their current accounts obligations and to finance recovery and rebuilding. Americas Ponzi scheme financial system will need to rise interest rates to cover treasury redemption’s. Interest rates might rise to 6% or more. That would seal the destruction of American recovery.

Could Gadaffi like Saddam blow his own oil wells? Isn’t is interesting that the areas the libyan rebels hold are the export terminals of oil and gas?

Question to Ted’s question? Who benefits? How? why?

All the Oil Producers gain. Oil companies gain. Enemies of America and EU gain. Investors in alternative energy gain. Investors in Gold/silver gain. Strengthens the dollar? (depends if the FED goes to QE3 and QE4?) Commodities go through the roof food to expensive for third world and poor in western countries. Civil unrest and instability around the world. World War is the logical result. Who wants and needs such a result?

Future of Libyan Oil Is in Doubt WSJ

Lawrence Eagles, head oil analyst at J.P. Morgan, said he expected Libyan production to “remain low and volatile for many years.” Libyan oil production has dropped to less than a quarter of the 1.6 million barrels a day it was pumping before the unrest began last month. Many expect crude output and exports to stop completely in the coming days.

Yet the market’s reaction to the airstrikes has been more muted than during previous Western interventions in the Middle East, such as the 1991 first Gulf War and the 2003 invasion of Iraq. “The big question for markets is how long the Libyan supply disruption will last,” said Mike Wittner, a senior oil analyst at Société Générale. “And even with the airstrikes, I don’t think we’re any closer to an answer.” Mr. Wittner said he was assuming Libyan production and exports would be “zero for the next six months.”

As expectations of a long, drawn-out conflict rise, traders are wondering when the foreign oil companies that were active in Libya before the violence erupted will return. If Col. Moammar Gadhafi hangs on to power, they may not be welcome. Some companies now fear they will see their oil interests in Libya expropriated or their contracts revoked “due to the supportive stances of their home governments towards the opposition,” said Samuel Ciszuk, a North Africa specialist analyst at IHS Global Insight. Col. Gadhafi has already threatened to strip them of their investments and hand them over to Chinese, Iranian and Russian firms.
