The Travesty of “Progressive” American Jews

by Isi Leibler, Jerusalem Post

It’s disconcerting and sad to see American Jewish “progressives” frenziedly lobbying the American administration to pressure Israel for further unilateral concessions to the Palestinians. To make matters worse, they understate – even obfuscate – their real game plan. They describe themselves as “pro-Israel,” “Zionist” and “moderate.”

They lay claim to being the true custodians of peace, portraying other Jewish leaders and AIPAC as neo-conservatives and extremists. While tempting to dismiss their behavior and Orwellian doublespeak as naïve and inconsequential, recall that the sham Soviet peace fronts succeeded in duping many gullible well-meaning liberals into endorsing campaigns promoting totalitarianism.

It’s all the more bizarre because no one would suggest that the current Israeli government is “hawkish.” On the contrary, the Olmert government has lost the confidence of its people precisely because of unilateral concessions which undermine Israel’s security and embolden terrorists. His government is an amen chorus which capitulates to every demand imposed on it by US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. It has provided weapons to the Palestinians which will almost certainly once again be redirected against Israel; it has released and granted amnesty to terrorists; and despite bitter opposition from the IDF, it has closed checkpoints and acceded to demands compromising security which have already resulted in Israeli casualties.

Yet like a replay of the odious behavior of Haaretz editor David Landau, who told Rice that it would be his “wet dream” for the US “to rape Israel” for its own good, American “progressives” are urging their government to exert pressure on Israel for further unilateral concessions. This is not a new phenomenon. For years the Israel Policy Forum (IPF) has been lobbying the White House to get tougher with Israel. They claim that in 1993, prime minister Yitzhak Rabin appreciated their support for his efforts to reach a peace settlement with Arafat. They fail to mention that in contrast to Olmert, Rabin did stand up to US pressure. Rabin would have exploded had he encountered Jewish organizations exploiting his name as a means to justify
lobbying the US administration to exert pressure on Israel.

As far back as 2005, IPF president Seymour Reich boasted how his organization had successfully persuaded Rice to force Israel to make concessions on the Gaza border crossing – concession that have since resulted in the loss of Israeli lives.

More recently the IPF shamelessly lobbied the White House to press Israel to negotiate directly with Hamas. Reich wrote to Rice on March 21 that “no progress can be made if Hamas – the governing body in Gaza – is totally excluded from the process.” M.J. Rosenberg, IPF’s policy director, urged the U.S. to “be extending carrots and not just slapping them [Hamas] with sticks”.

The Progressive Jewish Alliance, another self-styled “pro-Israel” body, promotes exhibitions on US campuses of photo montages alleging the dehumanization of Palestinians by the Israeli army. They insist that their demonization of the IDF represent an expression of their love for Zion.

Now with great fanfare and endorsement by much of the US liberal media, we have a new “progressive” initiative: an amalgam of various far-left organizations and individuals spearheaded by “Americans for Peace Now” and “Brit Tzedek V’Shalom” to establish “J.Street,” a political action committee. Although proclaiming their intention to espouse “moderation” and bring “balance” into American Jewish leadership, their actual intent is to further US pressure on
Israel and to undermine AIPAC, (and the Zionist Org. of America – jsk) the highly effective pro-Israel lobby. Such behavior is especially unconscionable since – aside from permits for
extra housing to cope with natural growth in the densely Jewish populated settlement blocs implicitly endorsed by President Bush – the Olmert government has conceded to all US government demands. It has even discouraged AIPAC and American Jewish leaders from trying to neutralize State Department pressures on itself for fear of antagonizing the administration.
J Street also publicly opposes the use of force to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear capabilities, which undermines Israel’s campaign to pressure Iran from going nuclear. In addition, J Street supports a swift withdrawal of US forces from Iraq, calls for direct dealings with Hamas and urges Jews to boycott Christian Zionists – Israel’s strongest allies. J Street intends to raise funds to provide $50,000 for selected Congressional candidates supporting
these aims.

Aside from a number of respectable personalities under the illusion that they have associated themselves with a “moderate” body seeking to promote peace between Israelis and Palestinians, J Street is mainly supported by prominent far-left Americans and Israelis like Ron Pundak, architect of the Oslo Accord.

One of its principal theorists is Daniel Levy, a former adviser to Yossi Beilin who trivializes Palestinian incitement to murder Israelis.

Former Jewish Agency chairman Avrum Burg, who has compared Israelis to Nazis and has urged the former to follow his lead and obtain European passports, is another notable J Street supporter. Burg’s ranting against his country is so vile that even most of his Israeli associates distanced themselves from him.

Writing this week in Haaretz, Burg pushed the envelope further and provided a gift to anti-Semites everywhere by accusing AIPAC of imposing “dual loyalties” on American Jews and of “institutionalizing near-treason and turning it into an enormous octopus of a political mechanism with enormous dimensions and numerous victims.”

Another key Israeli supporter is David Kimche, a leading figure in Israel Policy Forum. Kimche was director general of the Foreign Ministry under Yitzhak Shamir, where I had regular dealings with him. In those days, not only was he a hawk, but he even had the reputation of savagely roasting any Jewish leader who dared question Israeli government policies. “We live and die by our decisions, while you sit and pontificate from your armchair,” he would say.

Today he identifies with the extreme left. The Israel Council of Foreign Relations, which he heads, recently hosted a meeting in Jerusalem for ex-president Jimmy Carter, obliging the sponsor, the World Jewish Congress, to formally dissociate itself from the event.

The “progressives” will also try to capitalize on the fact that the Barack Obama campaign has embraced former ambassador to Israel Daniel Kurtzer and appointed him Obama’s adviser on Middle East affairs. Kurtzer, a Jewish dove, previously urged the Administration to take a tougher line with Israel. In his just-released book – Negotiating Arab Israel Peace – Kurtzer refers to the withholding of loan guarantees from the Shamir government by the first President
Bush as an example of how an American government can effectively bring Israel into line. He accused Dennis Ross – the Clinton-designated Middle East representative – of having been biased in favor of Israel. He even castigates the Clinton and Bush Administrations for not employing sufficient Arabists in the State Department.

The US is the only country capable of withstanding pressure from Arabs and their allies to isolate and delegitimize Israel. Thankfully, US public opinion and Congress has never been more favorably disposed towards Israel than today.

Yet over the past year, the Bush Administration has tilted from its former policy. Nor can we exclude the possibility of a future US administration distancing itself further from Israel.
It is therefore imperative that American Jewish leaders not underestimate the damage “progressive pro-Israel” groups can inflict, especially in light of the mainstream liberal media support J Street has enjoyed at its launch.

In the face of existential threats, Israel needs the support of America Jewry more than ever. While all are free to express their opinions, “peaceniks” who have the gall to call on the US to put the heat on Israel to act as they believe best, rather than what the citizens of that democracy have decided is, must be exposed as fringe groups outside the Jewish mainstream.

  1. Bill Nixon, was an anti-semite and his belated help in Yom Kippur War was more due to his fears of Israel using her Nukes. Nothing altruistic here just plain American fears of what Israel might do if really backed into a corner. In any Event The first resupply came too late as by then the Egyptian 3rd Army was cut of and surrounded and we were sitting on both banks of the Suez and the road to Cairo was wide open. I will add that Israel has yet to fully recover from the national trauma of that war, it was the last war we actually won.

On another Thread I posed a question that nobody picked up, as I have a ready reply waiting so I will here restate the question and give my reply.

I asked: The Indian Act of 1831, Jewish assimilation in America, the death camps of the Holocaust, secular Zionism, the invasion of Afghanistan after 9/11, and the Disengagement in Israel are all birds of the same feather. The Cherokees of Georgia: The Cherokees of Georgia, who in the 1830’s were forcefully exiled to Oklahoma, are basically the southern most subtribe of the Iriquois, the mother tribe of the Senecas in Maryland, the Algonquins in New York State, the Creek, the Yuchi, and others. As far as DNA goes, all the Iriquois who have been tested check out as of Middle east origin; some even carry the Y-chromosome of the Cohanim. A tribe of superb nautical prowess (like Zvulon and Dan, their probable ancestors), the Iriquois are believed to have sailed from Northern Israel, exiled by the Assyrians in 722 BCE, eastward along the Mediterranean, rounding Portugal then heading north to the British Isles, and subsequently crossing the Atlantic at the shortest point to Newfoundland – all some two thousand years before Columbus arrived in America. The Cherokees moved south, settling in the Carolinas and Georgia. Essentially, American Independance was a black day for them. The American Christian missionaries found the 18th Century Cherokees to be staunchly monotheistic, and vigorously opposed to the notions of Christianity. The missionaries, furious, began a smear campaign against the Cherokees, portraying them as lewd bloodthirsty savages (see James Adair’s “History of the North American Indians). Southern Christian fundamentalists later twisted Andrew Jackson’s ear to sign the ‘hate bill” of 1830 that lead to the expulsion of the Cherokees from Georgia and the subsequent death march of the tribe to the barren wilderness of Oklahoma. To this day, the nasty Southern Christian stereotypes of the Indians linger on in the media and in the cinema. Ultimately, those Cherokees who remained alive were christened by missionaries; today, there are few pure-blooded Cherokees. Assimilation and the missionaries have taken their toll, and few people of Cherokee descent know much about their own tradition.

The Jews of America: You may want to ask, why didn’t the fundamentalist Christian missionaries declare war on the newly-arriving Jewish immigrants like they did on the Cherokee? The answer is simple – they didn’t have to. The vast majority of Jews were more than happy to throw off the yoke of their religion, and to adopt the new religion of the greenback dollar. In the last thirty years, the number of Jews in the USA has dropped by nearly a million, from 6.1 million in 1970 to 5.2 million in 2000, while every other ethnic group is growing in leaps and bounds. Frankly speaking, Hitler killed bodies but American assimilation is killing over 300,000 Jewish souls every decade. So, the Christian Fundamentalists in the USA don’t have to kill Jews – the Jews themselves are doing the dirty work.

The Death Camps of the Holocaust: Roosevelt and the USA didn’t lift a finger to bomb the death trains or the concentration camps, despite the fact that they had aerial maps and intel on both. Roosevelt knew that the Jews in America were killing themselves, and he let Hitler do the dirty work in Europe. As such, the Christain white-collar antisemites of America was having the “Jewish problem” solved without soiling their own fingers as in the case of the Indians. When the Yanks made a show of liberating the concentration camps, only a few thousand walking skeletons remained – too little, too late.

  2. Yamit, a cautious optimist seems more in keeping with Jewish traditional thinking.

I share your concerns for the future as regards Jews and Israel.

The future however is not here yet. I still believe if Jews set their minds to it, they can do things now to prevent or at least soften many of the blows that the future doubtless holds in store for them.

The quote attributed from Nixon illustrates Nixon’s contradictions.

You may recall that during the 1973 war, with word that Israel was not faring well, Nixon reportedly asked Kissinger what Israel needed and on hearing that Nixon told Kissinger send Israel double what Kissinger had suggested was needed.

Yes Nixon reportedly said a number of things that would clearly mark him as antisemitic. By the same token however, Nixon was also heard to say things and indeed do things that marked him as a friend of the Jews and Israel.

Interesting is it not Yamit how complex personalities, often walking contradictions can be more on the side of good, then bad in the what they do and say?

  3. Yamit, I respect your comments and think that you are knowlegeable, however, the problem I have with your analysis as with others is that you refer to the Arabs living in Israel as,”Palestinians.” I refuse to give this misnomer as it leads to creedence for their cause. They are simply Arabs who flocked there as we the Jews developed the land. I will NEVER refer to them as Palestians!

  5. Yamit you need to temper your pessimism with a little optimism.

There is a general pro-Israel mood prevailing in America. If Obama becomes President and even if he is of an anti-Israel mindset, he at the same time will have to temper his attitude somewhat so as to not run against the grain of that general pro-Israel American attitude.

Regardless of what you fear or I hope for, time will tell soon enough what challenges the next American administration will present Israel and indeed Jews within America.

Lets hope for the best and of course out of an abundance of caution, plan for the worst in terms of what actions can be taken if the worst does begin to materialize.

  6. Today most of the venom of the left and liberal left and even in some conservative circles blame Bush. Bush will be a fading memory in the next year but the problems and even hardships of the American people won’t. That is when I would not want to be a Jew in America or Europe.. I do fear you guys are in for a rough time of it… If I am right? well you figure it out for yourselves. If I am wrong no harm done!

  7. This is a very old problem for Jews, we have these traitors in every generation..

“And Judah too, shall fight against Jerusalem…”
    (Zechariah 14)

The briefest of hints, but a chilling one: that in the end of days, Judah, Jews, will join the gentile enemy in war against Jerusalem. And behold, we see it in our days. The self hating Jewish anti-Semite. The Jew who fights his own people, who joins with the enemy of Jerusalem in battle against Jerusalem.

Disturbed Michael Lerner of Tikkun Magazine carried a “revised” list of sins for which we should beat our breasts on Yom Kippur as we recite Al Het (for the sin). For example:

“For the sins we have committed by not publicly criticizing the Jewish people and Israel when they are acting as oppressors.”

“For not recognizing the humanity and pain of the Palestinian people.”

What Alexander Hamilton said in his day
[“the masses are asses”] was a mere echo of a famous Yiddish folk saying, “der oylem iz a goylem”. The golem, one recalls, is that brutish being incapable of independent thought, and keyed to the will of its master. Alas, the more things change, the less anything in the Jewish world does. The OYLEM, the Jewish audience, remains a GOYLEM…

  8. Liebler spitting on far-left progressive Jewish organizations and individuals such as “Americans for Peace Now”, “Brit Tzedek V’Shalom” and newly formed “J.Street,”, should be followed up with his and other’s advice on how to marginalize and render such groups irrelevant.

  9. Regardwing Comment #1, I wouldn’t be so pessmistic. While it is true that the overall American Jewish population is declining due to assimilation, this excludes the vibrant and growing Orthodox community, which is expanding rapidly. Jews aren’t on track to disappear in America (unless everyone makes mass Aliya); they’re just becoming, on average, more observant.

As for Israel, demographic momentum is also more Jewish than Arab: http://yoramettinger.newsnet.co.il/Front/NewsNet/extras.asp?extraId=15483

The Influence of Sephardic Jews and Moors on Southeastern Indian Cultures
    By
    Donald Panther-Yates

Keynote address given to Institute for the Study of American Cultures, and Epigraphic Society, Columbus, Georgia

    October 24, 2002

When he died in 1986, the Jewish-American writer Bernard Malamud left an unfinished, truly genius-laden novel called The People that some say is his most bizarre and comical work. It tells the story of a Yiddish peddler who is kidnapped by a tribe of Indians and who becomes Chief Yozip, winning the love of the old chief’s daughter, One Blossom, after passing a series of initiation tests and fighting off the U.S. Cavalry. In the unwritten conclusion, Yozip apparently joins Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show “as a White Indian…becomes a U.S. citizen, and enrolls in night school to study law in order to help the Indians fight persecution and injustice.”

Since the 1980s, I have often felt that my own life rather continued and completed Chief Yozip’s adventures as I found out I was descended from Choctaw and Cherokee chiefs (after being raised to believe that I was Scots-Irish and English), became the band chief of the New York and New Jersey Cherokees, taught at the Native College in Chicago, ran a public relations agency for indigenous rights work in Nashville, became an elder of the Thunderbird Clan of the Teehahnahmah People in Tennessee, and most recently—and perhaps most surprisingly – discovered through genealogy and DNA testing I am Sephardic Jewish. My 4th-great-grandfather Isaac Cooper married Nancy Black Fox, a daughter of the last great Cherokee chief, Black Fox, or Enola, participated in the founding of an important Jewish colony in Daniel Boone’s Kentucky, and died remembered as the first rabbi and endower of the Jewish cemetery in Wheeling, West Virginia. The Coopers trace themselves back to medieval France and the duchy of Toulouse where like the royal Stuart family they were retainers in the court of William the Conqueror, Knights Templar and Levites. A famous member of the family was Anthony Ashley-Cooper, chief of the exchequer, lord-proprietor of the Carolinas under Charles II, Freemason and suspected crypto-Jew. I can’t say the Cooper line was an isolated case either. Y-chromosome testing along the same design as the “Cohen gene” through Family Tree DNA, a leading genetics lab under the direction of Bennett Greenspan in Houston, proved that most of the surnames in my family tree were Sephardic Jewish. It was all of a piece. I was, quite simply, a Jewish Indian, approximately an eighth to tenth-generation one, to boot!

I’m going to speak to you today about the influence of Sephardic Jews – one of the two divisions of world Jewry, the Western division — on Indian cultures in the Southeast U.S. in a time frame of approximately 1600 to 1800,
when the area was predominantly Spanish and the first contact took place between the tribes of the interior and traders from the coastal settlements of St. Augustine, Savannah, Jamestown and Pensacola. My work seeks to establish the thesis that—funny as it may sound—the five so-called “Civilized Tribes” of the Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek and Seminole owe their high degree of assimilation, long history of treaty-making, trade and legal rights, and in fact their very survival to Sephardic Jews like my forefather Isaac Cooper. It is not true that the Indians of North America are descendants of the lost tribes of Israel, but it is true that the earliest Jewish travelers and the indigenous people they visited and chose to settle among had many, many things in common. Relations between the two races were probably promoted by the mistaken belief on both sides that they were historically related. Whatever the implications of this wrong notion might have been, the Jewish descent of Indians was generally accepted on a popular level and also on a scientific level until quite recently. In the interests of condensing a large amount of material into the short span of thirty minutes here at the ISAC conference, I will concentrate on three arguments to show the degree of inter-influence between Jews and Indians—the identity and importance of the Melungeons, the ancient history of North American reflected in what is called Indian seer tradition, and certain chiefs’ genealogies.

My first argument has to do with Melungeons, a “triracial Appalachian isolate,” whose origins have, until recently, been one of the long-standing mysteries of American history. Nearly every surname in my family tree – also in my wife’s – is a Melungeon name, though there are only about 200 identified as such. Several substantive research works have been written about this ethnic group, each building upon the others to identify their origins. Among the most popular and well-documented theories are (1) that the Melungeons are survivors of Sir Walter Raleigh’s “Lost Colony” of Roanoke, (2) that the Melungeons are descendents of early Spanish and Portuguese sailors marooned or “dumped” in the Carolinas, and (3) that the Melugeons are the descendents of converso Moors and Jews who fled the Inquisition. In 2003, the Mercer University Press in nearby Macon will publish Dr. Elizabeth Hirschman’s breakthrough study, Melungeons: The Last Lost Tribe in America. I was fortunate enough to read the work in manuscript and become a collaborator with Hirschman, who is a marketing professor at Rutgers University and a well-known marketing consultant specializing in the impact of ethnicity on consumer behavior.

Using a combination of y-chromosome testing, genealogy and local history, Hirschman has proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that the forebears of the Melungeons were Sephardic Jews. Among her quite brilliant discoveries are that Daniel Boone, David Crockett, Andrew Jackson, Jefferson Davis, Sam Houston and James Robertson, the founder of the Cumberland settlements were Jewish, if not in practice, at least in genetics and by association.

see full speech here and it is really good!

  11. Shy Guy:

Cushman’s work thus reveals a “lost” white prehistory of Eastern Native America before the influx of Asiatic Indians from Mexico. Of interest for our thesis is that, through the Choctaw half-breed Israel Folsom, Cushman states that the Indians all believed themselves to be of Jewish extraction, though he himself dismissed that theory (pp 296-97). In its defense, however, though he probably discounted it, many of the first white pioneers among the Choctaw and Chickasaw – e.g., Pitchlynn, Colbert, Cooper, Gunn, Nail, Stuart – have Melungeon surnames. As argued in When Scotland Was Jewish, they were likely Jews or Crypto-Jews.

  12. Shy Guy my yiddish is very rusty so I missed the punch line but I can assure you that the subject is serious and there is a mountain of evidence connecting Jews from Spain and Israelites going back as far as King Solomon with north American Natives or Amerindians! Briefly just to maybe to pique your interest I submit the following.

American Indians and early contacts with Israelites
The main problem in finding linkages
between ancient Israelites and American Indian tribes is that such contacts
occurred so long ago and on the other side of an extended “Dark Age” when
most contacts were lost between the Old and New Worlds. While there is hard
evidence that these contacts did occur, some of the evidence is more
general. This topic is far too large to discuss in one email, but I will
attempt to give a brief overview of the evidence on this subject.

To begin with, there is now no doubt that extensive contacts occurred
between the Old and New Worlds prior to the Dark Ages. Much of these
contacts and colonizations of the New World were by the
Israelite/Phoenician Empire and its largest successor colony: Kirjath
Hadeschath (or “Carthage” as the Romans called them). The late-Dr. Barry
Fell, a Harvard Professor Emeritus, wrote a trilogy of books (Bronze Age
America, Saga America, and America BC) which extensively documented many
artifacts and inscriptions of these Old World civilizations in the
Americas, but he never placed the evidence in a biblical context. Dr. Fell
was roundly criticized by the “politically-correct” establishment for
daring to print the truth about America’s past. However, the evidence is so
overwhelming that one of the most famous American archaeologists, the
late-Dr. Cyrus Gordon, wrote in his book, Before Columbus, that “The
Atlantic was crossed long before the Vikings, by different people during
    different centuries” (p. 187).

A number of linguistic studies of American Indian languages confirm early
common roots with ancient Hebrew speakers. In the 1998 volume of The
Epigraphic Society Occasional Papers (ESOP), an article (“A Curious Element
in Uto-Aztecan”) by an author named Brian D. Stubbs provides evidence that
the Indian family of languages called Uto-Aztecan has demonstrable
similarities with the “very archaic” patterns of Hebrew and the Northwest
Semitic family of languages (see p. 112). His article provides many
examples of similarities between ancient Hebrew and the languages of Indian
tribes from Central Mexico to the Southwest and Rocky Mountain tribes
(Hopi, Utes, Paiutes, Shoshones, etc.) His conclusion that the similarities
date to very ancient forms of Hebrew is supported by physical evidence. In
New Mexico, the Ten Commandments are written in ancient paleo-Hebrew on a
large stone which I have seen with my own eyes and there are other very
ancient paleo-Hebrew inscriptions in the region as well. One member of the
New Mexico Epigraphic Society took me to see some of these inscriptions,
one of which he translated as: “tribe of Asher.” Photographs of some of
these inscriptions appear in my recent book, The Origins and Empire of
Ancient Israel. It is my view that these inscriptions date to the time of
King Solomon’s Golden Age when he sent fleets to other continents and one
particular fleet only returned every third year (I Kings 10:22). It was
expensive to build and provision a fleet of ships capable of trans-oceanic
voyages and the only time that the Israelites had both the wealth to
maintain such fleets and have sailors and settlers who adhered to the Ten
Commandments while in North America would have been in the time of King
Solomon. That era would have used the paleo-Hebrew characters found in the
    American Southwest.

Another study of Indian languages by Dr. E. Morgan Kelley of the College of
William and Mary was published in the 1990 volume of ESOP (see pp. 83-91).
It was entitled “North American Indian Tribal Names” and it identified
related language groups among the Indian tribes based on language
morphemes. One of the language groups was based on the morpheme “Dan,” the
name of one the tribes of Israel.

Another artifact with the Ten Commandments on it was unearthed in a burial
mound in the Ohio River valley in 1860. It was on a small, portable stone
and its letters were in the square Hebrew characters, confirming that it
dated to a more recent century than the Ten Commandments stone in New
Mexico. Photos and descriptions of this artifact also are in my above-named book.

Additionally, a Hebrew inscription called the Bat Creek stone was found in
the American Southeast in the region of the Cherokee near the
Tennessee/North Carolina border. It’s authenticity has been documented by
both Dr. Fell and Dr. Gordon. Dr. Gordon’s book, Before Columbus, includes
a scathing denunciation of those who attempt to deny the authenticity of
this artifact, which he dates to the 2nd century A.D. Dr. Gordon also
documented Hebrew-language coins from the Bar Kochba period being found in
Kentucky (p. 75 of same book), and Dr. Fell documented Hebrew-language
coins being found in Kentucky, Missouri and Arkansas (p. 168 of Saga America).

A letter from a Georgian of Cherokee ancestry in the 1986 ESOP commented on
a Cherokee legend that a race of pygmies once inhabited the Southern
Appalachians. This Cherokee myth was laughed at by “establishment” types
until pygmy skeletons were found in the region! Evidence presented in
chapter 3 of Barry Fell’s book, Bronze Age America, confirms that such a
race did exist and their skulls are photographed for that book as evidence.
Also noteworthy is that the Cherokee word for this pygmy race has the same
root word as the languages of Old World languages, indicating either a
Cherokee origin in the Old World or contact with Old World groups. The same
chapter of Dr. Fell’s book documents skeletons of both Mongoloid and
Europoid settlers in Ancient America, indicating that the very ancient
inhabitants of North America were multi-racial.

The evidence indicates that many Old World and Oriental groups explored and
settled ancient America. Ties between these groups and their founding
nations in the Old World and Asia were largely lost during the Dark Ages.
Intermarriage and tribal rivalries and mergers surely contributed to the
situation found by European explorers in the modern age: a North American
continent inhabited by a diverse group of Indian tribes and nations which
had different languages, appearances and cultures. Part of this multiracial
reality was caused by the Carthaginian colonizations in the Americas,
attested to by Aristotle and other Greek writers. Much physical evidence of
the Carthaginian presence in ancient America is presented in my books as
well as Dr. Fell’s books. The Carthaginians were a multi-racial society
with an army recruited from many racial/ethnic groups. Their presence in
large numbers in the ancient New World led to the Meso-American awareness
of the races of mankind as glyphs and statutes showing Indian, Negro and
Caucasian faces have all been found and documented.

There is much more evidence that could be presented on this subject, but I
hope this email contains enough to pique the curiosity of Britam readers.
Much more evidence on this subject is presented in my books about Israelite
history. The newest one will be released later this year. All of my newest

  13. The phenomenon discribed in the article is nothing new. Heretics and traitors very often tend to present themselves as the real tenants of Jewish tradition. Recently I liberal “Rabbi” in Paris said to very disappointed because the “Consistoire” (the Rabbanut) do not accept liberal “Rabbis” as memebers of Rabbinical Courts, since liberal “Judaism” reflects the teachings of the Sages of the Talmud! Also Yeshayahu Leibovits (the former Hebrew U president who referred to religious Zionists as “nazis”) used to assert that his abstruse views reflect the teaching of the Rambam (Maimonides)! And David Landau also claims to be a “religious Jew” although his acts are in continuous contradiction to the whole teaching of Judaism… And Yeshu HaNotsri (the heretic Jew who was hung by a Beth Din ca. 2100 years ago) used to refer himself to the Tora and other Jewish prophecies if one can believe the christian scriptures… And christianity itself claims to represent the “true” Jewish tradition…

JESUS FAILED TO FULFILL ANY OF THE SIX AUTHENTIC

    JEWISH MESSIANIC CRITERIA

Lets get started susstartmf33: The word “messiah”[1] means anointed with oil. All kings,[2] high priests,[3] and prophets [4] in the Jewish Bible are described as “messiahs” because they were all anointed with oil into God’s service. Many Jewish prophets foretold that a particular messiah, the Messiah ben David, would appear and fulfill six major prophecies that will lead the world into a special Messianic Era. These messianic criteria are and have always been universally accepted by the Jewish People. Jesus did not qualify as the Jewish Messiah ben David for the simple reason that he did not fulfill any of these criteria. The Messiah ben David must:

    1. have the correct genealogy by being
    descended from King David and
    King Solomon,

    2. be anointed King of Israel,

    3. return the Jewish People to Israel,

    4. rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem,

    5. bring peace to the world and end all war,

    6. bring knowledge of God to the world.

THE BIBLE’S MESSIANIC CRITERIA ARE EMPIRICALLY VERIFIABLE: “Faith” is irrelevant to the Jewish concept of the Messiah ben David, because an individual either fulfills these prophetic criteria or he doesn’t. Christianity requires faith that Jesus is their “messiah” precisely because he didn’t fulfill any of the Jewish messianic criteria. Christianity’s concept of faith in Jesus is therefore a substitute for this defect. It is important to note that the fulfillment of each of the six Jewish messianic criteria is empirically verifiable and therefore no faith is required to determine the identity of the Jewish Messiah ben David. For example, the entire world will be able to observe that the Temple has been rebuilt, the Jews have returned to Israel, the entire world believes in God, and the world is at peace. Virtually none of the Christian messianic “proofs” are empirically verifiable.

MAIMONIDES AND THE MESSIAH BEN DAVID: Rabbi Moses ben Maimon (the Rambam) was one of the greatest rabbinic sages in Jewish history. He explained how someday we would know the identity of the Messiah ben David:

“We may assume that an individual is the Messiah [ben David] if he fulfills the following conditions: He must be a ruler, from the House of David, immersed in the Torah and its commandments like David his ancestor. He must also follow both the written and the Oral Torah, lead all Jews back to the Torah, strengthen the observance of its laws, and fight God’s battles. If one fulfills these conditions, then we may assume that he is the Messiah. If he does this successfully, and then rebuilds the Temple [Beis HaMikdash] on its original site and gathers all the dispersed Jews, then we may be certain that he is the Messiah. He will then perfect the entire world and bring all men to serve God in unity. It is true that the prophet Isaiah predicted, ‘The wolf shall live with the sheep, the leopard shall lie down with the kid.'[5] This however, is merely an allegory, meaning that the Jews will live safely, even with the wicked nations, who are likened to wolves and leopards.”[6]

THE FIRST MESSIANIC CRITERIA IS GENEALOGY: Of the six primary Jewish messianic criteria, the only one that the Christian Bible claimed for Jesus was genealogy. The Messiah ben David must be Jewish, from the Tribe of Judah, from the seed of King David, and from the seed of King Solomon. (See genealogy chart).

    1. He must be Jewish.[7] One is Jewish if their mother is Jewish.[8]

    2. He must be from the tribe of Judah.[9] Under Jewish law, tribal affiliation is through the birth father only.[10] Since Jesus allegedly had no human father, he had no tribal affiliation. Therefore, Jesus was not from the tribe of Judah and is eliminated from messianic consideration.

The book of Chronicles in the Jewish Bible lists the genealogy of Abraham through King David plus an additional 29 descendants. The Gospels of Matthew and Luke provide conflicting genealogies for Jesus in an unsuccessful attempt to demonstrate that Jesus fulfilled the messianic criteria of genealogy. These three genealogies are listed, compared, and contrasted on the following page.

    GENEALOGY CHART

JESUS DID NOT QUALIFY: NOTES TO THE GENEALOGIES OF MATTHEW AND LUKE [11] Matthew and Luke made numerous mistakes in their so-called “genealogies” of Jesus that eliminate him from messianic consideration. The numbers to the left of the text below refer back to the numbers on the genealogy chart on the preceding page:

    (1) He must be from the House of David.
[12] Matthew 1 and Luke 3 traced Jesus’ lineage through Joseph back to King David. However, the Gospels assert that the “holy spirit” was Jesus’ father (not Joseph).[13] There is no indication in the Gospels that Joseph ever adopted Jesus although under Jewish law certain family and tribal affiliations must be through the birth father and cannot be claimed by adoption.[14] For example, if a Jewish priest, (a Cohen), has a male child, he has the status of a priest by birthright. However, if he adopts a child whose birth father was not a Cohen, the child does not have the status of a priest like his adopted father. Since Joseph was not Jesus’ birth father, there is no evidence in the Gospels that Jesus was from the house of David, which cannot be conferred through adoption under Jewish law. This eliminates Jesus from messianic consideration.

    (2) He must be from the Seed of Solomon[15] According to prophecy, the Messiah ben David must descend through David’s son Solomon. Not only was Solomon a king, he built the first Temple, which has profound messianic implications. Matthew claimed that Jesus descended through Solomon but Luke claimed that Jesus descended through Nathan, David’s other son (who was not a king). This eliminates Jesus’ genealogy through Luke.

    (3) A Fifteen Generation Difference: Luke’s genealogy from David to Jesus is fifteen generations longer than Matthew’s genealogy from David to Jesus. This undermines the Christian claim that the Gospels are the “word of God,” because God certainly knows the genealogy of King David. Some Christians attempt to solve this fatal problem by claiming that Luke’s genealogy is actually that of Mary, although Mary is not mentioned in Luke’s genealogy. Further, this claim is rendered meaningless by the fact that Jewish law only recognizes tribal affiliation through the father.[16] Even if one could consider the genealogy of the mother, if one assumes a generation is at least twenty years, this means that Joseph was at least three hundred years older than his wife (fifteen extra generations times twenty years per generation equals a three hundred year difference in their ages). This gives new meaning to the idea of a “May-December” relationship.

    (4) Who was Jesus’ Grandfather? The two “genealogies” do not agree on the identity of Jesus’ grandfather. According to Matthew, Jesus’ grandfather was Jacob and according to Luke he was Heli. This creates another devastating contradiction, further undermining the credibility of the genealogies given for Jesus by Matthew and Luke.

PAUL AND THE GENEALOGIES: The apostle Paul was the putative author of the Epistles Titus and Timothy, which subtly address the issue of Jesus’ genealogy:

    * “But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless.”(Titus 3:3)
    * “…nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than Godly edification which is in faith.” (1 Timothy 1:4)

CONCLUSION: The flawed and contradictory genealogies in Luke and Matthew are extremely problematic since genealogy is the only authentic messianic criteria that the Christian Bible claims that Jesus fulfilled. Jesus is eliminated from messianic consideration because of the myriad of errors and problems in both Matthew and Luke’s genealogies.

THE SECOND MESSIANIC CRITERIA IS THAT HE WILL BE ANOINTED KING OF ISRAEL. The term “messiah” means anointed with oil and in a messianic context refers to an anointed king. According to Jewish prophecy the Messiah ben David must descend from David who was a King of Israel. Therefore, David’s messianic descendant must also be an anointed king of Israel. It is necessary that a Jewish prophet (or a High Priest) anoint Jewish kings (with oil) because prophets are messengers of God and authenticate their right to kingship. For example, the prophet Samuel anointed King Saul with oil,[17] and Samuel also anointed King David with oil.[18]

This is one of the reasons the prophet Malachi prophesized that the prophet Elijah would return prior to the coming of the Messiah ben David.[19] A prophet (Elijah) must anoint David’s messianic descendent king of Israel. Accordingly, in the Christian Bible Matthew claimed that John the Baptist was “Elijah the prophet.”[20] Problematically, the Gospel of John (contradicting Matthew) reported that John the Baptist said he was not Elijah the prophet,[21] creating yet another problem for Jesus.

According to the Gospel of John, when the Roman Procurator Pilate asked Jesus if he was “king of the Jews,” Jesus answered “yes.”[22] In addition, the Gospels report that a woman anointed Jesus’ head with oil,[23] and a woman anointed Jesus’ feet with oil.[24] Jesus was also anointed with oil for his burial.[25] Interestingly, since Jesus claimed to be king of an “otherworldly kingdom,”[26] this anointing with burial oil may have been intended by the Gospel writer to initiate his rule into a “spiritual” kingdom.” However, although Jesus may have claimed to be “king of Israel” and nameless women may have anointed him with oil, these women were not prophets and there is no indication in the Gospels that Jesus was ever anointed Jesus king of Israel.

SAMUEL: “When your days are complete and you lie with your forefathers, I shall raise up after you your offspring who will issue from your loins, and I shall make his kingdom firm. He shall build a Temple for My sake, and I shall make firm the throne of his kingdom forever. I shall be a Father unto him and he shall be a son unto Me, so that when he sins I will chastise him with the rod of men and with afflictions of human beings. But My kindness will not be removed from him as I removed [it] from Saul, whom I removed from before you. Your dynasty and your kingdom will remain steadfast before you for all time; your throne will remain firm forever.” (2 Samuel 7:12-16)

CHRONICLES: “When your days are complete to go to your forefathers, I will raise up after you your offspring who will be from among your sons; and I shall make his kingdom firm. He shall build a Temple for Me and I shall make his throne firm forever.” (1 Chronicles 17:11-12)

CONCLUSION: Jesus may have claimed to be “king” and women may have anointed him with oil. However, a prophet never anointed Jesus king of Israel. Therefore, he failed to fulfill this messianic criteria and is therefore eliminated from messianic consideration.

THE THIRD MESSIANIC CRITERIA IS THAT HE WILL BRING THE JEWISH PEOPLE BACK TO ISRAEL. Not only did Jesus fail to bring the Jewish People back to Israel, the Jews were expelled from Israel shortly after Jesus lived. This is the opposite of what this messianic prophecy requires.

ISAIAH: “He will arise a banner for the nations and assemble the castaways of Israel; and He will gather in the dispersed ones of Judah from the four corners of the earth.” (Isaiah 11:12)

ISAIAH: “It shall be on that day that Hashem will thresh, from the surging [Euphrates] River to the Brook of Egypt, and you [Israel] will be gathered up one by one, O Children of Israel. It shall be on that day that a great shofar will be blown, and those who are lost in the land of Assyria and those cast away in the land of Egypt will come [together], and they will prostrate themselves to Hashem on the holy mountain in Jerusalem.” (Isaiah 27:12-13)

JEREMIAH: “I will return the captivity of Judah and captivity of Israel, and will rebuild them as at first.” (Jeremiah 33:7)

CONCLUSION: Jesus did not return the Jewish People to Israel and he is therefore eliminated from messianic consideration.

THE FOURTH MESSIANIC CRITERIA IS THAT HE WILL REBUILD THE TEMPLE IN JERUSALEM. Obviously, Jesus could not have fulfilled the messianic prophecy to rebuild the Temple since it was not destroyed during his lifetime. This (third) Temple must be built on the Temple Mount as specifically described by the prophet Ezekiel.[27] John’s Gospel reported that Jesus said that the Temple would be destroyed and he would re-rebuild it.[28] Matthew’s Gospel reported that Jesus was accused of threatening to destroy the Temple.[29] Perhaps the authors of these Gospels realized that Jesus had not fulfilled this messianic criteria and these comments were intended to address this problem. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the Jewish Messiah ben David must build the third Temple.

EZEKIEL: “I will seal a covenant of peace with them; it will be an eternal covenant with them; and I will emplace them and increase them, and I will place My Sanctuary among them forever. My dwelling place will be among them; I will be a God to them and they will be a people to Me. Then the nations will know that I am Hashem who sanctifies Israel, when My Sanctuary will be among them forever.” (Ezekiel 37:26-28)

MICAH: “It will be in the end of days that the Mountain of the Temple of Hashem will be firmly established as the most prominent of the mountains, and it will be exalted up above the hills, and peoples will stream to it.” (Micah 4:1)

ISAIAH: “It will happen in the end of days; The Mountain of the Temple of Hashem will be firmly established as the head of the mountains, and it will be exalted above the hills, and all the nations will stream to it. Many peoples will go and say, ‘Come, let us go up to the Mountain of Hashem, to the Temple of the God of Jacob, and He will teach us of His ways and we will walk in His paths.” (Isaiah 2: 2,3)

CONCLUSION: Jesus never rebuilt the Temple in Jerusalem in the manner described by the prophet Ezekiel and is therefore eliminated from messianic consideration.

THE FIFTH MESSIANIC CRITERIA IS THAT HE WILL BRING PEACE TO THE WORLD AND END ALL WAR. Jesus brought no peace to the world. Israel was destroyed in two wars with Rome shortly after Jesus lived. The last 2000 years have been the most violent in human history and the Church that was founded in Jesus’ name caused many of these wars. Since its re-establishment in 1948, Israel has not been safe from her enemies.

EZEKIEL: “I will seal a covenant of peace with them; it will be an eternal covenant with them; and I will emplace them and increase them, and I will place My Sanctuary among them forever.” (Ezekiel 37:26)

MICAH: “He will judge between many peoples, and will settle the arguments of mighty nations from far away. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning knives; nation will not lift sword against nations, nor will they learn war anymore.” (Micah 4:3)

ISAIAH: “He will judge among the nations, and will settle the arguments of many peoples. They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks; nation will not lift sword against nation and they will no longer study warfare.” (Isaiah 2:4)

CONCLUSION: Jesus brought no peace to the world, and he is therefore eliminated from messianic consideration.

THE SIXTH MESSIANIC CRITERIA IS THAT HE WILL BRING KNOWLEDGE OF GOD TO THE WORLD. Jesus did not bring knowledge of the Jewish God to the world. The Christian Bible directly contradicts the Jewish definition of God and directly contradicts all fundamental Jewish teachings about God. Most of the world still does not know God. Ironically, whenever a Christian missionary proselytizes a non-believer he proves that the Messiah ben David has not yet come. His act of proselytizing is a graphic demonstration that the world is not yet filled with knowledge of God.

ISAIAH: “They will neither injure nor destroy in all of My sacred mountain; for the earth will be as filled with knowledge of Hashem as water covering the sea bed.” (Isaiah 11:9)

ISAIAH: “The glory of Hashem will be revealed, and all flesh together will see that the mouth of Hashem has spoken.” (Isaiah 40:5)

ZEPHANIAH: “For then I will change the nations [to speak] a pure language, so that they all will proclaim the Name of Hashem, to worship Him with a united resolve.” (Zephaniah 3:9)

JEREMIAH: “They will no longer teach – each man his fellow, each man his brother-saying, “Know Hashem! For all of them will know Me, from their smallest to their greatest – the word of Hashem – when I will forgive their iniquity and will no longer recall their sin.” (Jeremiah 31:33)

CONCLUSION: Jesus failed to bring knowledge of God to the world and is therefore eliminated from messianic consideration. The Messiah ben David by definition is the man who fulfills the six authentic messianic criteria discussed above. The Christian idea of “belief or faith” in this messiah or in his identity is never mentioned in the Jewish Bible because it is irrelevant. In Jewish terms, failure to fulfill even one of the messianic criteria is conclusive proof that individual is not the Messiah ben David. Therefore, when Jesus died without fulfilling any of the six messianic criteria, this was conclusive proof that he was not the Messiah ben David.

THERE IS NO “SECOND COMING” CONCEPT IN THE JEWISH BIBLE: Missionaries respond with their “second coming” theory, which asserts that Jesus will accomplish everything when he comes “next time.” There are two major problems with this Christian answer. First, the second coming theory has no scriptural basis in the Jewish Bible. In fact, scripture states that when a person dies, “on that day his plans all perish.”[30] Therefore, according to scripture, when Jesus died, his plans ended. Second, the second coming theory can apply to any person who has ever lived and therefore is totally meaningless. For example, one can claim that their Gentile grandmother was the messiah. When challenged that she didn’t accomplish anything, one can say that when she “comes back” she will be born a Jewish man with the correct genealogy and will accomplish everything!

Your fight with the Catholics, Indians, Communists,Democrats,Masons, Islam and I guess everybody else maybe a thousand other groups and belief systems of course is your business but when you say:

neither does any form of “Judaism” have anything to do with the God of Israel, should there be any deviations from the Torah and the prophets. Jesus says to such apostate “Jewish” groups: Rev 3:9 I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, y who claim to be Jews though they are not, z but are liars—I will make them come and fall down at your feet a and acknowledge that I have loved you.

This pretty much says it all I think! You must consider though that we Jews really don’t give a dam what you think and as far as we are concerned you are as pagan if not more than any atheist. An atheist has no deity so he is not a Pagan you on the other hand do fit the description as you do believe in other gods (Plural).

  17. sunstartnf33, Very good, little by little you show your true essence, Your description of Native Americans, is what finally convinced me of what you are. You should understand at least one thing, Jews are not a race but an ethnic grouping passed through the mother although some would say in Biblical times it was the father just as triba affiliation is through the father. Some might contend that we should in this time accept both lines Mother and Father. This we call people hood. I can walk into any Jewish community in the world even in Korea and India and have more in common with any Jew there than I have with you. Sometime in one generation or another Jews stray from Torah observance but then generations later some of their grand children do come back.

People today are looking for some unexplained reason for Jewish roots just as many are today discarding them. There is a cure for ignorance and that is knowledge.

Here are a few Letters From Lazer Beams Blog, on his articles withe some of the Cherokee:

    YMG from London writes:

Just wondered if any of your readers noticed the expertise Grandmother White Eagle showed in her letter to you – her analysis of the lessons to be learnt from the wolf could lead to a doctorate in the in the University of the Trail (referring to Chapter 3 of The Trail to Tranquility – LB)! I wonder who’ll be teaching who when we become reunited with our lost brethren. Warmest regards from chilly London

    Rabbi HK from NYC writes:

Your post from yesterday was a kiddush Hashem (sanctification of Hashem’s name – LB), especially when the Cherokee elder wrote, “Your loyalty to G-d’s word shows the world

why only the Jews could be trusted to pass down the word of G-d without changing as much as one letter”. When the wise people of the nations praise those loyal Jews who walk the path of Torah, then the Shechina (Divine presence – LB) is raised from exile. I wish our own people would realize the importance of preserving Torah to the letter…

    Miriam W. from Jerusalem writes:

I got chills up my spine when I read yesterday’s post. I am a gerras Tzedek (convert – LB), and my mother was half Cherokee; my grandmother’s name was Helen Lightfoot, a full Cherokee from Oklahoma. Strangely, I always had a deep love for the Jewish people, and once I came here to Israel, I knew I had come home. Your articles about the Jewish roots of the Cherokee are not only fascinating, but in my heart and brain I know they’re true. I join Grandmother White Eagle in applauding Wa ya Udo – Rabbi Wolf Brother.

    Brian from San Francisco writes:

I checked out your site after seeing you quoted in a Bay-area Jewish newspaper. I had always heard that the Orthodox, especially the ultras like the Hassidim, are intolerant and insular. I was floored to see a letter between you and a Cherokee elder. Seeing how much Grandmother White Eagle respects the Jewish people makes me want to learn more about my own people...

I’ll conclude this post with another amazing Jewish-Cherokee tidbit: Grandmother White Eagle wrote me that the Cherokee have a custom of ritual immersion and purification seven times in a river or other natural body of fresh water, called Atawastiyi, the Cherokee version of mikva. In ancient Arameic, the daily jargon that the Northern tribes of Israel spoke, Asa vest, which is amazingly similar to Atawastiyi, means “the menstrual period has gone”, indicating the exact time of required ritual immersion.

May we see an ingathering of all the exiles soon, amen.

  18. ISRAEL is not based on ethnicity, but based upon the Torah and the Prophets. Without Torah Law becoming the Foundation Stone for Israel’s Law Abiding State, there is nothing “Jewish” to build upon. Torah defines Israel’s borders and the first two commandments warn about serving other gods or setting up other gods with the God of Israel. The center of Israel’s Land is Jerusalem; the center of Jerusalem is the Temple Mount; the center of the Temple Mount is the Rock where the First and Second Jewish Temples; the center of this rock is the Temple built according to Moses/Solomon measurements in the Torah Law; the center of the Israeli Temple is the Ten Commandments in God’s Ark of the Eternal Covenant; the STONE upon which God’s Law is built is THE TEN COMMANDMENTS; the SOURCE of the Ten Commandments is God’s Spirit; the Center of God’s Throne is in Heaven and Heaven’s Center is the Creator and Author of Life. Being “Jewish” has a spiritual, in addition to a physical root. Progressive ‘liberal’ Jews have nothing to do with obedience to God’s Commands and are to be considered imposters, just like “Catholic” doctrines are imposters to real Christian Faith. As surely “Catholicism” has nothing to do with following Christ, neither does any form of “Judaism” have anything to do with the God of Israel, should there be any deviations from the Torah and the prophets. Jesus says to such apostate “Jewish” groups: Rev 3:9 I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, y who claim to be Jews though they are not, z but are liars—I will make them come and fall down at your feet a and acknowledge that I have loved you.

Some of us have the DNA, to prove it, Where is yours? Who are required to observe the 7 Laws of Noah, that is your only passport. Your belief in the crossed planks puts you on the outside of the contract. Sorry to haveto bring you the bad news.

  20. Ed D,

I just love the first four rules! I totally agree, except for rules 5 and 6.

“Build homes anywhere claiming ’eminent domain.’ Uhm. Wrong! As a Nation, Israel must quote the Torah borders as God’s Everlasting covenant in the land. It’s not a government decree, but God’s decree, according to God’s command for that particular territory. I don’t believe in ’eminent domain’ in ANY PART OF GOD’S CREATION. I don’t believe in putting a price on people. land or personal property. I believe it is God’s Will that we all share Earth’s resources for FREE at no cost or obligation. The Muslims have the entire Middle East; Europeans have Europe; Americans have America; NOBODY should touch the land of Israel or claim any deeds or titles on what belongs exclusively to Israel alone. The U.N. should be forced to create a new charter calling for the expulsion of the Palestinian ‘authority’ and Hamas and any Islamic organization off Israeli soil. Either transfer the Palestinian refugees to Arabia or to some other Islamic country of their choice. There needs to be a global declaration that ALL NATIONS leave the land of Israel to Israeli authorities, exclusively. This can and will achieve UNIVERSAL PEACE by a universal vote. As for forcing young and women into the IDF, every Israeli is forced to serve in the military for two years anyway. No, I don’t think that forcing anybody in our own family is the right thing to do. God wants volunteers – not slaves. I for one, would like to someday volunteer to blow up all Islamic sites off Israeli land and property. Okay. Who’s with me? I will start by removing the Dome of the Rock and allowing the people to build the Third Jewish Temple!

  21. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel. f
Ro 9:7 Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham’s children. On the contrary, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” 43 g
Ro 9:8 In other words, it is not the natural children who are God’s children, h but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring.

  22. Perhaps it will be a good thing to have the US slacken her support for Israel. That way, Israelis will not be obligated to kowtow to them. As recently proved by the US to undermine Israel’s defense against Iran, the US Government (not the public who supports her) acts only in the interests that benefits them. I believe that Israel is capable of building it’s own armaments using the high tech no how and would put thousands of jobs needed for her citizens. When (soon I hope) the Conservative right wing takes control, there are several things they must do:

    1. Pass a law preventing any Arabs to be members of the Knesset.
    2. Pass a law that would give Israel the right to expel any Arab family when a member commits a felony.
    3. Expose in a very positive manner the liberal press and make them irrelevant.
    4. When a rockets is fired into Israel, make the Arabs pay dearly by hammering them severly. If that doesn’t stop them, proceed to wipe them out.
    5. Build homes anywhere by claiming “immanent domain”.
    6. Force young men and women aither into the IDF or public service for the same amount of time.

These are a few chores, but it’s a good start.

  23. Take Issi Leiblers painful essay above and add to it the facts as described below and I would be very curious to hear how many if not most of the cementers on Israpundit can relate to Business as usual and hiding the real problems under the carpet of willful blindness. I would especially like to hear from Bill levinson on this.

The Rogues gallery mentioned in Leiblers article are not cause but symptoms of a greater problem that to me seems obvious to me but apparently not to most other Jews both in the diaspora and in Israel.

While this article is a few years old the facts speak for themselves and if anything have grown more negative since.

There are only 13 million Jews left on the face of the Earth and I am one of them.

That’s it. Just 13 million Jews. To put that into perspective, Spider-Man made $114.8 million its opening weekend, so if you assume that each ticket cost $8, that means 14 million people who went to see that movie in three days. That’s right. More people saw Spider-Man in its opening weekend than there were Jews on Earth.

We account for just 0.2% of the world’s population, which hypothetically means you could take a place like Dallas, where there’s a million people, and there’d only be 2,000 Jews. In theory, every Jew in town could fit in the Magnolia Hotel in downtown Dallas and sit together in one section of Texas Stadium. Imagine that.

Of course, that’s all in the abstract. There are a lot more Jews than that in Dallas and in America as a whole. Four out of five Jews live either in Israel, where Jews have power, or in America, where Jews are extremely well accepted. More Jews live in New York City than in all of Europe combined.

As if the number of Jews out there — just 13 million — wasn’t shocking enough, consider this illustration of how small we are at the moment. According to a breakdown of 1990 U.S. Census data, the name Joseph was the ninth most popular name, covering 1.4% of the American population. If we assume nothing’s changed since then, that means there are 4 million Joes in the United States and just 5.2 million Jews.

Given the massive number of Muslims and Christians out there, we are one drop in the world’s rapidly filling bucket. And yet we’re one of the leading players in a tidal wave of hatred and violence and division in the world. Thirteen million people adrift in a sea of 6.3 billion people and half the world still thinks we set up the World Trade Center attacks?

    THE WORLD STILL HATES JEWS.

Jews have been around for thousands of thousands of years, considered one of the world’s first religions, mother of both Christianity and Islam and yet the whole world somehow has a problem with us. For thousands of years, Jews have been on the run, something we call the diaspora, fleeing the Egyptian Pharoah, the Roman Army, the Spanish Inquisition, Communist Russia, Nazi Germany and so on.

Sixty years ago, we were hunted down in Europe like dogs and fled homes and communities, never to return. The Third Reich’s “Final Solution” may have been stopped, but by the time it was, the “problem” was almost solved — six million European Jews were killed. Today, just 60,000 Jews remain in Germany, where anti-Semite hooligans are silently tolerated the way the Old South treats racist crackers. The world still isn’t a safe place for Jews — just look at France.

In early January, Rabbi Gabriel Farhi, a leader of the Jewish Liberal Movement, a progressive group that aims to peacefully settle the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, was stabbed to death on the streets of Paris. Months earlier, a pregnant Jewish woman was hospitalized after being attacked in Lyon, a Nice synagogue was firebombed and Marseilles’ Jewish community was devastated after the Or Aviv synagogue was burned to the ground. (A week later, someone came back and torched the local Hebrew school.)

Throughout this, French schools have dealt with waves of attacks on Jewish schoolchildren — all reasons why twice as many Jews fled France in 2002 as did the year before. Anti-Semitism in France is now en vogue in ways unseen since World War II. How else could the French ambassador to Britain get away with calling Israel “that shitty country?”

France is not alone. The rest of the Continent has similar problems with anti-Semitism as well. Lithuanian fans lead anti-Semitic chants during football games. Europe’s Jewish cemeteries have been desecrated, anti-Semitic slogans have been appearing on walls and governments have done nothing in response. In an August 2002 report, the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights concluded that France and Belgium were particularly adept at looking the other way.

The debate over geopolitics leaves these facts out, ignoring the wider context in which my people, and Israel, exist. For more than fifty years, Arabs have been actively trying to scrape the Jews from the face of the Earth. Make no mistake, this is the Arab world’s Crusade. But while Christians had stone swords, these guys are playing with plagues and nuclear weapons. It’s wrong to think this, but if the aim of the Arab world is to destroy Israel and they were successful, what would happen to a third of the world’s Jews? Where would survivors go next?

ARE JEWS THE WORLD’S NATIVE AMERICANS?

All of this makes me think about the Native Americans, who like Jews, were victims of genocidal murder and were forcefully driven from their homes. Today, they’ve largely concentrated in Arizona, Oklahoma and Alaska and just 60,000 Native Americans remain in South Dakota. All that proud history reduced down and slapped on the side of football helmets.

It’s a more interesting comparison when you consider that Native Americans are, statistically, in the same boat here in America. There are only 4.3 million Native Americans left, just 1.5% of the total population of 284.4 million, according to recently updated Census data.

But while Jews are shrinking the Native Americans are a growing part of the U.S. population. According to the National Jewish Population Survey, there were 5.2 million Jews in America as of 2000, down 300,000 from 1990. At that rate, American Jewry shrank by about one member every 20 minutes. Meanwhile, according to U.S. Census data, Native Americans grew by 500,000 over the same span and have had a 4% growth rate over the last 50 years, better than both blacks and whites.

    AMERICA’S BLESSING IS A CURSE.

In many ways, America has become the reservation that Jews can most depend on. But in fleeing for the great melting pot of America, Jews have only swapped evils. Our salvation here may well be our end, as Jews marry non-Jews and generations of children grow up with two incompatible religions or none at all. In the world of Jews, there’s no way to be “both.”

Back in the 1990, the National Jewish Population Survey concluded that 52% of all Jews were marrying non-Jews. And since Judaism has been historically averse to the evangelizing and proselytyzing used to promote conversions, there’s no reason to believe that the number of Jews is going to start rising anytime soon.

First off, American Jews underestimate the problem, with nearly 66% of all respondents saying anti-Semitism was a greater threat than intermarriage to Jewish life in the U.S. As the Jerusalem Post said in a recent editorial, “With the breakdown of the racial, ethnic and religious barriers, opposition to intermarriage in most liberal societies now smacks of racism. In such an environment, in the absence of religious commitment, even a strong Jewish education no longer represents a guarantee against intermarriage. Diaspora Jews are simply being absorbed into their host communities like water to a sponge.”

And secondly, the Jewish population is aging rapidly because young Jews are having so few children. The median age of the Jewish population in the U.S. is 41, pretty much out of the child bearing years, versus just 35 for the rest of the American population. More than half of all Jewish women between 30 and 34 haven’t had any kids. All told, Jewish women have 1.8 children, well below the replacement rate of 2.1 children.

Six thousand years ago, Judaism emerged as the world’s first monotheistic religion and since then, nearly all of the worlds big religions and empires have tried to wipe us out. To be a Jew is to be a survivor in exile a master at adapting to alien, often hostile worlds. Every time we’ve been persecuted, Jews have emerged and prospered despite our enemies. (It’s a totally ignorant stereotype, but there is some truth in the joke that Jews control the banks and media.)

Sixty years ago, European Jews made their final exodus to Israel and established a safe haven for Jews. But instead of shelter, all Israel has provided is storm, as the Arab nations around it spent decades launching attacks from all sides. Today, the majority of Jews live in America where they can peacfeully coexist with other religions.

But even the blessing of safety has become a curse. Hard demographic trends make it clear that I am part of a dying people. No one wants to say this out loud, of course, but it’s clear as day. American Jewry shrank by 5.4% over the past decade. And in Israel, Arabs will eventually outnumber the Jews, something that Knesset has been hotly debating.

To be fair, some estimates say the Jewish population rise and could hit 15.6 million in 2080. But we’re shrinking and shrinking as a percentage of the world’s population. If nothing changes, the number of Jews in America will hit 2.294 million in 2080, where we’ll account for just 0.7% of the U.S. population.

How cruel. America is Israel’s benefactor and closest ally, helping keep a Jewish homeland safe. This country has more Jews than any other country on Earth. And yet my proud religion is melting away in the warmth of America’s freedom, like a hunk of cold butter in frying pan.
