The US is better off for giving aid to israel

By Amb. Yoram Ettinger

The following are politically-incorrect, game-changing themes, which have dominated my weekly article, videos, PowerPoint presentations, lectures and briefings in Israel (Hebrew) and the US (English). These game-changing themes dwell on US – rather than Israeli – interests, which is the common sense approach, when addressing US target-audiences

  • The US investment in – not foreign aid to – Israel feeds the mutually-beneficial, two-way-street US-Israel cooperation, which yields to the US a few hundred percent annual rate-of-return, rendering the US taxpayer significant benefits (e.g., advancing research & development, increasing exports, expanding employment base, enhancing national security).
  • The400thAnniversary of the unique US-Israel ties  (from the 1620 “Mayflower” to the 2020 statues of Moses in the US House of Representatives and Supreme Court) reflects the deep roots of the American people’s solidarity with the Jewish State, which transcends the political beltway in Washington, DC, the US media and academia. 2020 will be dedicated to the amplification of the 400th Anniversary via Congressional and State (Governors and State Legislatures) resolutions, a series of 2 minute videos, a series of PowerPoint presentations, exhibits (based on an inventory of over 100 documents), lectures and articles in the US and Israel.
  • The proposed Palestinian state would undermine US interests by threatening the stability of pro-US Arab regimes (e.g., Jordan and Saudi Arabia), destabilizing the region, and enhancing the regional clout of Russia, China and Iran. Supporting such a proposal represents the systematic misreading of the Middle East – and ignoring the Palestinian intra-Arab track record – by policy makers, media and academia.
  • The Palestinian issue is not  the crux of the Arab-Israeli conflict, nor a core cause of Middle East turbulence, neither a crown-jewel of Arab policy-makers.  For example, the current unprecedented ties between Israel and Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar and Morocco have evolved while there is no movement on the Palestinian front.
  • There is nothe Arab demographic time bomb.” There is an unprecedented (secular) Jewish demographic tailwind, as documented by a US-Israeli team, which I co-founded in 2004, in defiance of Israel’s academic, media and political establishments.
  • Israel’s control of the Judea & Samaria mountain ridgesadvances US interests,  while a retreat from Judea & Samaria would transform Israel from a unique strategic asset to the US to a burdening liability, undermining the survival of relatively pro-US Arab regimes.
  • Israel’s control of the Golan Heights advances US interests by constraining Iran, Syria, ISIS and Russia, while bolstering the national security of the relatively pro-US Hashemite regime in Jordan.
  • The relocation of the US Embassy to Jerusalem hasbenefited US interests
  •  Iran’s Ayatollahs require a military not diplomatic option.
  • The USState Department Mideast policy has failed systematically.
  • The co-equal US Congress has played a key role in shaping US policy, in general, and enhancing the mutually-beneficial US-Israel relations, in particular.
  • Much of my time has been dedicated to the “Flyover America,”small town USA,Capitol Hill staffers on foreign relations and national security, independent oil and natural gas producers and other non-conventional target groups.
